Comments: This would be a five star masterpiece but they dropped the ball on the third episode

Beautifully filmed and narrated with a real soundtrack. The first two Eps cover the rise of five lion brothers from cubs to badass mofos. Radke filmed the pride when the five were just cubs but then he left the area for other projects. He assumed, statistically, only one of them would make it past their first year. When five brothers all make it to maturity they can be a big bag of hurt for hundreds of miles around. Just ask any lion who met the Mapogo Clan

Tipped off by locals a couple years later that all five were alive and rambunctious teenagers, he returned to find them overstaying their welcome and still part of a very large pride. They were wimps, staying at home and relying on their faster, smarter mothers and sisters to provide them meals

It's hard to provide enough meat to satiate a large pride, especially when five of them are large males. In a moment of insane hunger one of these jerkball lion bros kills one of his sisters and eats her. WTF?

Even if Mom had the support of her sisters it would be impossible for her to forcibly exile her sons. They are much bigger and stronger, and their father, who's generally the one to force out maturing males, either left or was killed. So mom and her sisters and their cubs, without an assist from a dominant male, leave their territory

Thus begins their migrating journey to find a new territory and perhaps some new males to protect them. In a weird twist, the five bros meet up with their mom about 25 miles from their original location, and decide to form an alliance for hunting. The girls will suss out a vulnerable buffalo and begin the takedown. This can last hours. Buffalo are the only hoofed animals that will attempt to save one of their own when attacked. So the girls not only have to try and wear down a 1-2 TON buffalo, they have to fight off an angry cavalry. When the jerkball lion bros decide a buffalo has been worn down to the point of exhaustion and unable to fight back much at all they will jump on to help. Their massive weight ends things pretty quickly. It's kind of fucked up, but it's the way things work in a lion's world

Gorgeous photography and intriguing drama for the first two sets. The third set is just drawn out Lions vs Buffalo stuff that has been done better, and in better locations, by other film makers

On YT in gorgeous 4K but probably won't last long YT-1 YT-2 YT-3

An immersive and compelling story of the daily lives and struggles of five young lions in the Black Rock region of Kenya’s Masai Mara reserve. Born in 2017, the lions were given names by the Masai people to suit their personalities: Olumina, the lame one, is the most sexually active but has difficulty walking. Olosiadu, the stay-behind, is cautious and often isolates himself. Lorkulup, the tag-along, has a permanent runny nose that hinders him from hunting with his brothers. Orpadan, the hunter, is always in the lead and first to their prey. Oloborr, the sister-killer, is the strongest male and the boss of the group.

Following the lions for the first five years of their lives, this is a gripping and thought-provoking documentary that offers fascinating insights into the lives of these majestic animals, while highlighting threats such as poaching and habitat loss
