Comments: I usually don't like when I can see what the director is up to in a film, but Paul Thomas Anderson is so good he gets a pass. I didn't like his previous two films much so it's great to see him back in stride. Every scene in this film is a surprise. PTA juggles a complex plot and a whole bunch of characters and never drops the ball. Joaquin Phoenix just *is* that guy.

Summary: In 1970, drug-fueled Los Angeles detective Larry "Doc" Sportello investigates the disappearance of a former girlfriend.
