I wish I had watched this before, or instead of, the festival cut. Not that the cut version is bad. In fact, I think it tells the 'story' better than this Twin Peaks version. But there's the rub. It's not about story. This version transports you to the world more deeply, and even though I watched it over the course of a single day I had processing and anticipations between episodes the way I did during the Twin Peaks run. Strangely, I felt the extra doses of Murata Time kind of watered him down, but I had already watched the movie version of him so the WTF factor was a little demoted. I think I enjoyed all the other characters more this time. Immersion. I remember liking the soundtrack more the first time, and I didn't notice the low sub-frequency drone moments in this version (maybe I had a bad rip of the movie, lol, but it was cool). I think if I re-watch this again I'll watch the movie version, even though I rate this one higher and would absolutely recommend this version to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. I'm not sure what to make of the final gunshot in this version. Hmm. Summary: Nothing is as it seems when a charismatic conman and an aspiring film crew delve into the lives of two emotionally scarred women. |
