Comments: First of all, the Gun on the Table girl. The rookie who's bad at her job, makes mistakes and has a scene with snot hanging from her nose. You can't introduce a character like that and not have her come round at the end, spot the clue everyone missed and solve the case. Yoshida just writes her out of the script and calls it subversive filmmaking. Color him an auteur

Halfway through this nothingburger I'm thinking Yoshida better go full-Himeanole or I'm asking for my money back. Satomi Ishihara has a handful of exquisite outbursts, but did she really go through the ringer? I never felt it. Mean comments on the Internet?

SIDEBAR - I really want to see a Japanese film that explores the collision of Twitter and "Face". How did the internet destroy millennia of Japanese culture in a heartbeat? Nosy news reporters are one thing, but the way Japanese films depict this internet bullying is either fantasy (see Nobody To Watch Over Me) or needs to be looked at more seriously

An ending of calm understanding is poetic, but it felt unearned and more like giving up ... since we could never reach cruising altitude, we might as well land smoothly and call it a success

Summary: A girl vanishes while walking, leaving her family devastated. As months pass without clues, rumors about her mother's actions intensify online, straining her marriage.
