Flick starts with two sisters in a row boat on a lake in the middle of the night having a conversation that reveals them to be a mile apart, sitting in a dumpster First act is calm and sweetly odd. Typical Japanese sister stuff. Lovely Things start to ramp up in the second act. Events start to unfold and come together in a way they would only if they were part of a screenplay wanting to ramp things up. There's a scene I can't give justice to where Hiyori (BAMBI NAKA), shirtless, has a knife in the face of a man she thinks disappeared her sister and answers her mobile from an unknown number. Turns out it's Eimi (YUI NARUMI) calling to give Hiyori her new cell number. Eimi asks "Are you feeling weird or anything? If anything happens feel free to contact me anytime." Hiyori says "Got it. [pause] Okay then, bye". It has to be seen to be believed The third act becomes comically absurd, but pretty cool because everyone's full on commitment is palpable Flick lands half the ending really well but leaves some things under water Even though I was laughing at her, and for her, by the third act, this is a Yui Narumi home run ::roses:: Her scene on the boat at the end feels almost Hikari Corinthians 13 Mitsushima [update] This director worked with Sono for years and gets a blurb from him on the movie's homepage: A debut work created with tenacity. Well done! Mr. Matsuo. It perfectly depicts the girls' fragile glass hearts. It depicts the broken glass heart of a girl in a way that makes you think it's a movie made by a girl Sion Sono (film director) Summary: Eimi, who came to Tokyo after graduating from junior high school, invites her sister Yu, who lives in her hometown of Shiga, to move to Tokyo with her. She is reluctant at first, but suddenly accepts and soon after goes missing. One day Eimi meets Hiyori, whose sister is also missing. Everything changes when the police contact her to inform her that they have found the body of a young woman in Lake Biwa, but the body is that of Hiyori's sister, not Yu. Together Eimi and Hiyori search for the murderer, but things take an unexpected turn. |
