Comments: I was looking forward to this film which film stars Jung-hyun Lee, the girl who got naked, knocked around, and raped at age 16 in the remarkable film A Petal Ggotip (1996). She's great here as a young woman trying to raise money for a guy she inexplicably marries who has a hearing problem (so the actor playing him shouts all his lines). The film starts off with bad table manners, food horror, and eating-acting. There's shots of raw meat, a close-up of a bloody surgical procedure, and a scene where where one of the many unpleasant characters she meets tortures her with a hot iron. There is nothing pleasant about this film. It's trash. No rating.
Summary: This film is about Soonam, a woman who lives a life full of ups and downs like a rollercoaster. The movie delivers pleasure and discomfort at the same time by the mysterious pain that Soonam is going through when all she is doing is living a diligent life. While Soonam with dexterous skills has a hard time living within the cold hearted human world, she transforms into a beast. Within this free and creative movie there are several elements that we should pay attention to. The rare and weird characters, wild angles and aggressive editing, different genres confusingly mixed up and extraordinary visual shows a special sensitivity. It is hard to find the origin of the hardships that Soonam is going through. This film points out the irrationality of humanity and the world full of greed. (JANG Byungwon)
