Comments: A masterpiece has to succeed in spite of itself. The scene that serves as transition in this film is so predictable I thought it was going to ruin everything. But, as I've been saying for years, the Koreans have a habit of doing things so predictable you think they're going to ruin everything and then they win with them. "Oh no! Don't shoot ... Hey! Great shot!"
That's what happens here. In keeping with the director's wishes, I won't say anything about the film, except to state that there may be a certain feeling of some flaw to it that will nag at you but you may not be able to pinpoint what it is. There is no denying, however, that this film is a masterclass given by a group of people playing at a very high level and at the top of their game. It's a buzzer-beater from half court. Summary: All unemployed, Ki-taek's family takes peculiar interest in the wealthy and glamorous Parks for their livelihood until they get entangled in an unexpected incident. |
